
Mataram, June 2, 2025 — The Student Association of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program (HMPS Bastrindo), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), University of Mataram, successfully held a Wikilatih workshop in collaboration with Wikipedia Indonesia. The event, held on Friday (May 30) in the FKIP Workshop Room, was attended by 25 students along with faculty representatives from the Bastrindo program.
Wikilatih is a Wikipedia article editing training aimed at enhancing digital literacy and encouraging public participation in developing free Indonesian-language encyclopedia content. The workshop brought together Indonesian Language and Literature Education students, lecturers, and digital literacy enthusiasts from within the university.
“This Wikilatih training is highly beneficial for Bastrindo students—not only as an introduction to the Wikipedia system, but also as a way to expand their networks and collaborate with other communities. It is also expected to spark students’ interest in the evolving world of digital writing,” said Ms. Marlinda Ramdhani, M.Pd., faculty advisor to the student association.
The event began at 08.30 WITA with participant registration, followed by the opening ceremony, welcoming remarks, and a group photo session. The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Rahmad Hidayat, M.A., Secretary of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program, alongside a representative from Wikipedia Denpasar. “I hope this activity helps Bastrindo students gain a clearer understanding of Wikipedia’s function and accessibility as a user-editable media platform,” he remarked during his opening speech.
The first session introduced participants to Wikipedia and its related Wikimedia projects. Students explored the concept of open encyclopedias, different Wikimedia initiatives, and how to navigate the Wikipedia main page. In the second session, they practiced creating user accounts, user pages, and editing entries on Indonesian Wikipedia—learning how to make basic edits, choose article titles, and engage in Q&A.
The third session guided participants through drafting new stub articles on Wikipedia. Facilitators provided tutorials on writing standards, editorial policies, and technical aspects of article creation. After lunch, participants continued developing their articles, receiving feedback, and engaging in open discussion.
The event concluded with an evaluation session, a prize quiz, and the official closing. The atmosphere throughout the training was interactive and enthusiastic, as participants not only gained new knowledge but also directly contributed by publishing content on Wikipedia.
This activity is expected to mark the beginning of ongoing collaboration between HMPS Bastrindo FKIP Unram and Wikipedia Indonesia, while encouraging students to actively share knowledge through digital platforms.
