Mataram, 3 August 2025 — The Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), University of Mataram, held a Learning Design Workshop from 30 July to 2 August 2025. The workshop was part of the program’s efforts toward international accreditation, featuring Prof. Dr. Bermawy Munthe, M.A., a senior lecturer from UIN Sunan Kalijaga, as the keynote speaker.
Over the course of four intensive days, the workshop explored various aspects of learning design based on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) and the National Standards for Higher Education (SNPT). Prof. Bermawy’s sessions covered a wide range of topics, including teaching philosophy, content standards, graduate competency standards, learning process standards, assessment standards, as well as the development of course syllabi and outlines.
In each session, Prof. Bermawy not only presented theoretical frameworks but also guided participants through practical exercises in designing learning plans. This interactive approach was highly appreciated, especially by PBSI FKIP Unram’s young lecturers.
“Many of the strategies and methods he introduced felt very close to classroom practice. It really motivated us to design more creative and student-centered learning experiences,” said Farida Jaeka, M.Hum., a young lecturer teaching Literary Theory this semester.
According to Farida, the atmosphere of the workshop differed from typical training sessions. Participants were actively engaged in the design process, making the outcomes immediately applicable to their courses. “As young lecturers, we gained more confidence in developing course designs. The focus was not just on fulfilling administrative requirements, but on creating meaningful learning experiences for students,” she added.

Meanwhile, the committee chair, Dr. Irma Setiawan, M.Pd., emphasized that the workshop was not merely about meeting accreditation requirements but also about building a sustainable academic culture. “Our vision is to deliver learning that not only meets national standards but is also competitive at the international level. The presence of Prof. Bermawy has been a great inspiration toward that goal,” she said during the opening remarks.
FKIP Unram’s Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Saprizal Hadisaputra, M.Sc., also highlighted the importance of teaching innovation as a key to addressing global challenges. He encouraged young lecturers to be drivers of change with the courage to explore new approaches in teaching.
The workshop concluded on 2 August 2025 with the finalization of course syllabi and outlines. It is expected that the results will soon be implemented in upcoming lectures, further strengthening the PBSI FKIP Unram Study Program’s position in the process of achieving international accreditation.
