Mataram, June 5, 2025 — The Biology Education Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), University of Mataram, has reaffirmed its commitment to preparing students for global challenges by launching a new English Language Talent and Interest Class. The program officially began with the participation of Bernard Langton, an education consultant from South Africa, who serves as the lead mentor.

This class is designed as a self-development space for Biology Education students from all academic levels who wish to improve their English proficiency. Conducted online, the class will be held once a week over a three-month period (May to July 2025) and follows an interactive format to create an enjoyable and practical learning experience.

Unlike typical language courses, the first session adopted a light and thematic approach. Students were invited to discuss everyday topics in English—ranging from traditional Lombok cuisine and its ingredients to their favorite tourist destinations in the region.

The discussion flowed warmly with active participation. Bernard praised the students’ courage in expressing themselves in English while sharing the richness of their local culture. “Blending language learning with local culture like this is highly effective in building confidence and speaking skills,” he noted.

The class also includes daily conversation practice in an interactive format, covering activities such as expressing opinions, introducing oneself, and answering spontaneous questions. The aim is to help students get accustomed to using English in natural, real-life contexts.

More than just a language course, this initiative serves as a strategic platform for students to develop their interests and talents while enhancing their personal competencies. By launching this program, the Biology Education Program at FKIP Unram is fostering cross-cultural and linguistic collaboration, broadening students’ horizons, and equipping them to compete at a global level.
