Mataram, July 31, 2024 – The Biology Education Program of FKIP University of Mataram, through the 2024 Merdeka Campus Competition Program, organized a two-day In House Training from July 29-30, 2024, at Lombok Plaza Mataram. The event was attended by 15 lecturers from the Biology Education Program. Two In House Trainings were conducted: herbarium management and bioinformatics (phylogenetic tree). The goal of this training was to enhance the capacity of Biology Education lecturers in managing herbarium collections, which is an important method for biodiversity conservation.
The In House Training was officially opened by the Dean of FKIP University of Mataram, Drs. Lalu Zulkifli, M.Si., Ph.D. The speakers for this event were Tri Handayani, S.Si., M.Si., Agus Kusnadi, M.Sc., Dr. Indra Bayu Vimono, S.Si., M.App.Sc., and Putri Sapira Ibrahim, S.Si., M.Si., from the BRIN Oceanographic Research Center. These experts, who are researchers in the field of Botany, delivered sessions on specimen collection techniques and specimen management, as well as sharing knowledge and skills on genomic data analysis using the MEGA and CHROMAS applications. This training aimed to enhance the competency of Biology Education lecturers in managing herbarium collections and foster greater awareness of plant conservation efforts.
This training is part of the Biology Education Program's efforts at FKIP Universitas Mataram to improve the quality of education and research in Indonesia. Both the speakers and participants enthusiastically practiced genomic data analysis, with the hope of producing more skilled young researchers who will contribute to the advancement of science and technology in the country.(fu)
