Mataram, 10 November 2025 — The Student Association of the Biology Education Study Program (HMPS Pendidikan Biologi) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Mataram, successfully held the public lecture “Marine Study Club 2025” themed “Coastal Ecosystem and Their Role in Marine Environmental Sustainability.”

The event took place on Saturday, 25 October 2025 at the 3rd-floor hall of Building D, FKIP Universitas Mataram, starting at 08:00 WITA. A total of 75 participants attended, consisting of Biology Education students from the University of Mataram as well as external participants interested in marine and coastal environmental issues.

Moderated by Nabila Azzah Mumtazah, the session featured two experts in marine studies: Prof. Dr. H. Imam Bachtiar, M.Sc., a Professor of Marine Biology and Oceanography at FKIP, and Noar Muda Setyawan, S.Pd., M.Si., a lecturer at the Jembrana Marine and Fisheries Polytechnic.

In the first session, Prof. Imam Bachtiar delivered a presentation on the richness and diversity of Indonesia’s marine biota. He emphasized the importance of understanding marine biology and oceanography as the foundation for sustaining marine resources and highlighted how interactions among marine organisms help maintain the balance of marine ecosystems.

In the second session, Noar Muda Setyawan, S.Pd., M.Si., provided an in-depth discussion on seagrass ecosystems. He explained the vital functions of seagrass as a habitat for various marine species, a natural food source, and an essential carbon sink contributing to climate change mitigation.

The discussion session ran actively and interactively, with participants enthusiastically engaging in questions and exchanging perspectives with both speakers.

Overall, the “Marine Study Club 2025” public lecture concluded successfully. The event is expected to enhance participants’ understanding and awareness of the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems as part of broader efforts to support marine environmental sustainability.
