East Lombok, May 31, 2025 — As part of its commitment to enhancing teacher competencies and addressing the demands of 21st-century education, the Mathematics Education Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Mataram conducted a community service program at SDN 2 Suela, Suela District, East Lombok Regency, on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The event featured four faculty teams delivering innovative and practical topics for elementary school teachers, with a focus on strengthening TPACK, contextual numeracy, critical thinking, and the use of AI technology in learning assessment.
The program was officially opened by Ms. Nani Kurniati, M.Sc., representing the Mathematics Education Program, along with Mr. Lalu M. Jauhari Marjani, M.Pd., Head of the Education and Culture Office for the Suela Subdistrict. Both speakers expressed appreciation for the university’s tangible contribution to improving the quality of teaching and learning in the Suela area.
The following four key topics were presented during the activity:
-
“Integrating Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) into Student Worksheets for Elementary Teachers at SDN 2 Suela”
Led by Dr. Nyoman Sridana, M.Si., this session introduced the TPACK framework as a model for designing student worksheets that integrate technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. Teachers were guided to understand the synergy among these three elements in creating relevant, contextual, and engaging learning experiences for students. -
“Training on Developing Critical Thinking Strategies in Mathematics Instruction for Elementary Teachers in the Suela Cluster”
Delivered by Drs. Ketut Sarjana, M.S., this training aimed to equip teachers with concrete strategies to foster students’ higher-order thinking skills in mathematics. The session focused on crafting stimulating questions, facilitating reflective discussions, and designing problem-solving activities that nurture students’ critical reasoning. -
“Workshop on Teaching Numeracy in Various Contexts for Teachers at SDN 2 Suela”
Presented by Ms. Ni Made Intan Kertiyani, M.Pd., this workshop emphasized a contextual approach to numeracy instruction. In hands-on group activities, teachers tackled numeracy problems based on real-life scenarios, such as a volcanic eruption of Mount Rinjani. Using maps, they conducted spatial investigations to identify districts affected within a certain radius. The activity sharpened not only teachers’ numerical skills but also their analytical, collaborative, and spatial reasoning as facilitators of meaningful learning. -
“Enhancing Elementary Teachers’ Competence through Training on AI-Assisted Interactive Mathematics Assessment Using Canva Magic”
Facilitated by Ms. Ratna Yulis Tyaningsih, S.Pd., M.Pd., this session introduced Canva Magic AI as a tool for creating creative and interactive learning assessments. Participants were trained to design questions, quizzes, and rubrics digitally with visually engaging formats that promote student involvement and motivation in the evaluation process.
The event ran smoothly and received enthusiastic participation from the attendees. Active discussions and hands-on practice sessions enriched the teachers’ perspectives and opened up opportunities for future collaboration between schools and the university.
Through this initiative, the Mathematics Education Program at FKIP University of Mataram reaffirms its dedication to improving the quality of primary education, particularly in East Lombok. The program continues to champion context-driven, collaborative, and technology-based instructional innovations as a cornerstone of educational development.
