Mataram, 18 August 2025 — The atmosphere at SMPN 6 Mataram was vibrant as hundreds of students and dozens of junior high school mathematics teachers gathered to take part in the 2025 Mathematics Seminar and Competition (SEKOMA), organized by the Mathematics Teachers Association (MGMP) of Mataram City.

The event was officially opened by the Head of the Mataram City Education Office, M. Yusuf, S.Pd., M.Pd., who emphasized the importance of nurturing students’ interests and talents in mathematics from an early stage.

This year’s competition involved 147 students, divided into 39 teams from 31 junior high schools across Mataram. Participants competed in solving challenging mathematics problems with both speed and accuracy. While students focused on the competition, their accompanying teachers engaged in professional development through a parallel seminar.

The seminar, attended by 50 mathematics teachers, featured Dr. Sri Subarinah, M.Si., a lecturer from the Mathematics Education Study Program of FKIP Universitas Mataram, as the keynote speaker. She shared strategies and insights to strengthen teachers’ capacity in preparing students for the National Science Olympiad (OSN) in mathematics.

Chair of the MGMP Mathematics of Mataram City, Ainul Biri, S.Pd., expressed appreciation to all parties involved, including FKIP UNRAM’s Mathematics Education Study Program for providing academic support through resource persons. “This event is not only a competition but also a space for knowledge exchange between teachers, students, and universities,” he remarked.

Through this collaboration, SEKOMA 2025 is expected to foster young talents in mathematics while strengthening synergy among schools, teachers, and higher education institutions in Mataram City.
