Mataram, 14 November 2025 – The Mathematics Education Study Program of FKIP University of Mataram held another inspiring academic event through a public lecture titled “Mathematics as a Universal Language: Perspectives on Mathematical Proof and Ethnomathematics” on Friday, 14 November 2025. The event took place in the Hall on the 3rd Floor of the FKIP building and was attended by all lecturers and students from various cohorts.

The program was officially opened by the Coordinator of the Mathematics Education Study Program, Dr. Laila Hayati, M.Si. In her remarks, she expressed deep appreciation for the presence of two internal speakers who had both recently earned their doctoral degrees this year.

“This public lecture is not only an academic celebration but also an important moment to strengthen our study program’s research culture. The presence of two new doctors with different research focuses demonstrates how Mathematics Education can develop from both cultural perspectives and formal logic. Students should take this opportunity to broaden their viewpoints and sharpen their critical thinking skills,” Dr. Laila stated.

The session was guided by the moderator, Pratama Wahyu Purnama, M.Pd., who also highlighted the importance of academic activities such as this.

“These two topics offer complementary perspectives—how mathematics grows within cultural contexts and how it is structured through rigorous proof systems. Together, they provide a comprehensive picture of mathematics as a rich and dynamic discipline,” he noted.

In the first session, Dr. M. Turmuzi, M.Pd., presented material titled “The Development of Global Ethnomathematics Research: A Bibliometric Analysis Using the Scopus Database.” He outlined trends, developments, and the global contributions of ethnomathematics research, while emphasizing the relevance of cultural approaches in modern mathematics education.

The second session featured Dr. Deni Hamdani, M.Pd., with his presentation “Mathematical Proofs and Their Underlying Aspects.” He discussed how the process of proving forms the fundamental basis of mathematics, and encouraged students to understand the structure, strategies, and philosophy behind sound mathematical proofs.

The public lecture ran dynamically. The question-and-answer session, filled with inquiries from both students and lecturers, showcased strong enthusiasm for the two topics that, while different, greatly enriched one another.

The event concluded with the hope that this activity will serve as a foundation for strengthening academic quality, research development, and student learning spirit in the Mathematics Education Study Program of FKIP University of Mataram, in line with its vision to produce competent, critical, and globally minded mathematics educators and researchers.
