Mataram, May 23, 2025 – To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the Sociology Education Study Program, in collaboration with the Sociology Education Student Association (HMPS), held a public lecture titled “PPG Is More Than Just a Requirement: Building Teacher Competency from College” at the Prof. H. Sunarpi Dome Building on Friday, May 23, 2025.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Muh. Makhrus, M.Pd., Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni at FKIP Universitas Mataram, who expressed his appreciation for the lecture as an important platform to equip students early on with the knowledge and readiness needed for their future teaching careers.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Dadi Setiadi, M.Sc., Head of the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Study Program at Universitas Mataram. In his presentation, Dr. Dadi focused on three key areas: teacher professional competencies, the competencies expected from pre-service PPG graduates, and the latest PPG policy directions for future teachers in Indonesia.
Dr. Dadi emphasized that a teacher’s professional competence goes beyond mastering the subject matter. It also includes methodological understanding, integrating learning technology, and effective educational communication skills. He explained that pre-service PPG graduates must meet four core competencies as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Culture: pedagogical, personality, social, and professional competencies — with a strong emphasis on reflective practice and innovative teaching methods.
He also outlined that future PPG policies will increasingly align with national education needs that are adaptive to digital transformation, inclusivity, and strengthening the teacher’s role as a learning leader in schools.
“Becoming a professional teacher doesn’t start with certification. It begins with the intention to learn and the development of attitudes and skills from the moment you’re a student,” Dr. Dadi stated during the discussion session.
The event was attended by faculty members and active students from the Sociology Education Study Program and is part of the program’s ongoing effort to produce graduates who are not only administratively prepared but also professionally and ethically excellent in the field of education.
