Mataram – The rapid development of the modern world requires every sector of human life to adapt in order to remain relevant and not be swept away by change, including the education sector. Learning has now shifted from conventional systems to digital platforms.
The presence of digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) has made learning more accessible and practical. However, this transformation also brings challenges that must be carefully addressed to ensure that moral, social, and cultural values rooted in Pancasila are not neglected.
Responding to this dynamic, the Sociology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Mataram, organized a national seminar entitled “Transforming Sociology Learning in the Digital Era.”
In her opening remarks, Nursaptini, M.Pd., Coordinator of the Sociology Education Program, emphasized that modern learning must be aligned with the demands of a digital-based era.
“If we don’t strive to adapt, we will be left behind. At the same time, we are also required to be wise in using digital media in today’s era,” Nursaptini said on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
She added that sociology learning must be interactive and meet students’ intellectual as well as social needs. In sociology, students are not only taught theories but also encouraged to apply knowledge directly in society.
Meanwhile, Dean of FKIP Universitas Mataram, Drs. Lalu Zulkifli, M.Si., Ph.D., expressed his high appreciation for the Sociology Education Program’s success in hosting its first national seminar.
The Dean also highlighted the achievements of the program, noting its recognition as the first “Excellent” accredited program within FKIP, despite being the youngest department.
“Sociology Education is truly remarkable. Alhamdulillah, today’s SOSEDUTECH National Seminar has been successfully held with such a relevant and inspiring theme,” he stated.
The seminar, held at the Prof. H. Sunarpi Dome, featured four distinguished speakers specializing in education, particularly in sociology learning. Among them was Dr. Mariman Darto, Expert Staff at the Directorate General of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemdikdasmen), Ministry of Education.
Other speakers included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norwaliza binti Abdul Wahab (Sultan Idris Education University, Malaysia), Dr. Grendi Hendrastomo (Yogyakarta State University), and Fajar Nugraha Asyahida (Indonesia University of Education).
The event was attended enthusiastically by the entire Sociology Education academic community at Unram, from lecturers to hundreds of students who filled the Dome and actively participated in the seminar.
