Monday, February 12, 2024 – A general lecture organized by the Civics Education and Citizenship (PPKn) program was held at the beginning of the current semester’s classes. This time, the Civics Education program chose the theme of “Law Enforcement: Between Idealism and Reality,” featuring keynote speakers from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and the NTB Regional Police. The event took place at the Dome in the University of Mataram.
This general lecture is one of the routine agendas conducted by the Civics Education program, as conveyed by the Chair of the Committee, Edy Kurniawansyah, M.Pd. The theme selection is adjusted to the current conditions in the field. In his address, the Chair of the Civics Education Program, Dr Lalu Sumardi, M.Pd., also mentioned many legal violations in society, and the aspirations for justice are not yet aligned with the reality we face. This served as a background for choosing this general lecture's theme. His remarks echoed the sentiments expressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Mataram, Drs. Lalu Zulkifli, M.Si., PhD, welcomed this activity, stating that the Civics Education program consistently conducts general lectures with exciting and up-to-date themes.
The guest speakers for this general lecture were Mrs Regina Wiwin, S.H., a Legal Counselor Specialist from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in NTB, and Police Commissioner Abdul Azas Siagan, S.H., M.H., as the Head of the Legal Division of the NTB Regional Police. They provided a wealth of information and new knowledge about the law enforcement process and various obstacles in its implementation. The enforcement of law in Indonesia still faces challenges from multiple aspects.
The enthusiasm of the students participating in this general lecture made the event more engaging, with various questions being raised. At the end of the event, the Civics Education program expressed gratitude to both speakers for graciously attending and presenting precious material.
