Mataram, July 28, 2025 The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at the University of Mataram officially welcomed an academic delegation from Universität Kassel – Germany, in a visit aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the field of sustainable education and global transformation. The event takes place from July 28 to 31, 2025, at the Main Meeting Hall, Building A, FKIP Unram.

The delegation from Universität Kassel consists of three prominent academics: Dr. Ellen Christoforatou, Prof. Dr. Nina Skorsetz-Gumprecht, and Prof. Dr. Claudia Schlaak. Their visit marks the initiation of a collaborative project entitled “Changes – Exploring Critical Sustainable Development Education from Global Perspectives.” This program is a multilateral partnership involving higher education institutions from Indonesia, Germany, Argentina, Canada, and South Africa.

In his welcoming remarks, Dean of FKIP Unram, Drs. Lalu Zulkifli, M.Si., Ph.D., expressed deep appreciation to the guest speakers and the visiting team from Universität Kassel. He emphasized that this visit represents FKIP Unram’s strong commitment to building international networks in response to global educational challenges.

“FKIP Unram has been actively engaging in global collaborations, and Universität Kassel is a pioneer in a strategic partnership that brings immense value. We currently manage 16 study programs across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, and we are very open to expanding academic and research opportunities through international cooperation,” he explained.

He further stressed that global challenges require global solutions, and that the education sector must take the lead in addressing these issues. He encouraged all participants to make the most of this valuable opportunity to learn from international experts.

Beyond strengthening partnerships, this visit also serves as a platform for sharing experiences on critically and contextually integrating sustainable education into the curriculum. In her presentation titled “Global Education for Sustainability and Transformation: Challenges and Chances from a German Perspective,” Dr. Ellen Christoforatou highlighted the importance of cross-border education that moves beyond jargon and truly fosters social transformation through environmental awareness and social justice.

In closing, the Dean of FKIP Unram shared exciting news that a return visit by Unram’s delegation to Universität Kassel is planned in the near future, further expanding the international academic dialogue. He also invited the delegates to explore the natural beauty of Lombok Island as part of the local culture and hospitality that enrich this collaboration.

This event reflects FKIP Unram’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
