Lombok, October 9–10, 2025 — The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), University of Mataram, successfully hosted The 7th International Conference on Education and Social Sciences (ICESS 2025) at the Lombok Astoria Hotel. Carrying the theme “Empowering Education and Social Sciences for Sustainable Development, Global Competitiveness, and Local Impact,” the conference served as a significant platform for academics, researchers, and education practitioners from various countries to share insights and recent research findings focused on sustainable development.
In her opening report, Dr. Boniesta Zulandha Melani, M.A., Ph.D., Chair of the Organizing Committee, stated that ICESS 2025 was attended by 31 online presenters, 21 onsite presenters, and 39 student poster competition participants showcasing innovative ideas in education and social sciences. “This event reflects the diversity of participants, both local and international. We encourage all participants to engage actively in discussions, exchange ideas, and strengthen academic networks across nations,” she said.
The conference was officially opened by Prof. Akmaluddin, S.T., M.Sc.(Eng), Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems at the University of Mataram, representing the Rector. In his speech, he emphasized that this event aligns with the national theme “Impactful Campus” promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. “ICESS acts as a catalyst that brings researchers together to foster synergy and improve the quality of education in Indonesia,” he remarked.


Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Saprizal Hadisaputra, M.Sc., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FKIP University of Mataram, representing the Dean, highlighted that ICESS reflects FKIP’s strong commitment to enhancing its global engagement. “This conference is not only an academic forum but also a bridge for establishing partnerships between local and international academic communities. Use this opportunity to expand your network with global experts,” he encouraged.
The conference featured keynote speakers from various countries and fields of expertise, including Dr. Zhenyu (David) Zhang (Murdoch University, Australia), Prof. Dr. Arifuddin, M.Pd. (University of Mataram, Indonesia), Dr. Na Jiang (Shangrao Normal University, China), and Dr. Donita Grissom (University of Central Florida, USA). In addition, invited speakers included Prof. Diswandi, Ph.D., Lalu Muhammad Hayyanul Haq, Ph.D., Dr. Mimi Nahariah Azwani Binti Mohamed (UTHM, Malaysia), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mazlina Che Mustafa (UPSI, Malaysia), and Ratih Ayu Apsari, M.Pd., M.Sc. (University of California, Berkeley, USA).
ICESS 2025 covered a wide range of disciplines, including Teaching & Learning, Educational Policy & Management, Community & Society, Language & Culture, and Innovation & Technology. Participants discussed strategic issues such as sustainable learning, inclusive education, global education policy, and the integration of digital technology in teaching and research.
The conference also directly contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by emphasizing the importance of cross-disciplinary and cross-national collaboration in realizing equitable and sustainable education.
With the participation of hundreds of attendees from around the world, ICESS 2025 not only reinforced the global presence of the FKIP University of Mataram but also demonstrated the faculty’s strong commitment to advancing impactful, excellent, and globally competitive education.
