Mataram – Ramadan is more than just a time for fasting. It is a month of transformation, a time for hijrah—a journey of change that encourages us to move from a lesser state to a better one. In a religious talk on the 6th of Ramadan, 1446 H, at the FKIP University of Mataram musholla, Dr. H. Amrullah, M.Pd., invited the congregation to reflect on the true meaning of hijrah, especially in this blessed month.

“Do people think that they will be left alone because they say, ‘We believe,’ and will not be tested?” (QS. Al-Ankabut: 2). This verse serves as a reminder that hijrah is never an easy journey. It requires sincerity, strong determination, and the willingness to face challenges.

Hijrah is not merely about physical relocation but, more importantly, about shifting from bad to good, from negligence to devotion. Ramadan is the perfect time for this spiritual transformation, as every act of worship is rewarded manifold. If we truly desire change, now is the time to act.

However, hijrah cannot be done half-heartedly. First, it must be driven by a sincere intention for the sake of Allah. Second, it must be followed by firm determination and action—wanting to change is not enough; it must be reflected in our attitudes and daily habits. Third, we must continuously seek knowledge and understanding to strengthen our hijrah and keep it from faltering.

“No one knows how long they will live, so never delay your hijrah,” he reminded. The journey of change is never without obstacles—temptations, old habits, and an unsupportive environment can all stand in the way. But if we persevere, our level of piety will rise—not just during Ramadan, but beyond.

Ramadan is not the end of our hijrah; it is the beginning of a lifelong journey toward greater piety. Just as a seed grows into a tree, the changes we initiate today must be nurtured so they can bear fruit in the future. May this Ramadan guide us toward true hijrah—one that lasts not just for a month, but for a lifetime.
