In performing acts of worship, there are two dimensions that we need to understand: the dimension of time and the dimension of place. Both have an important role in determining the amount of reward we get. The month of Ramadan is a clear example of the time dimension where all acts of worship will be multiplied. This is a golden opportunity that only comes once a year.

In addition, the dimension of place also plays a significant role. Different places have different rewards. Praying at home is certainly not as rewarding as praying at the mosque. In fact, praying at the Grand Mosque provides a much greater reward. Therefore, as smart servants, we must be able to maximize worship by choosing the best time and place.

However, the reality is that many of us often waste this dimension of time, especially in Ramadan. In fact, a hadith states, “Whoever fasts with faith will have his past sins forgiven.” This is a great motivation for us to continue to improve the quality of our worship during Ramadan.

Sometimes, there are practices that seem small but have multiple rewards. Reminding ourselves not to underestimate the small things is key to maximizing the end result of our worship.

Hopefully, in the remainder of Ramadan, we can really make the most of these two dimensions, so that we return from this noble month with Allah’s forgiveness and pleasure.
