IELTS training is designed to develop key English language skills and test strategies that will ensure students achieve the IELTS score required for most undergraduate and postgraduate programs and student visas. AusAid in collaboration with the Indonesia Australia Language Foundation (IALF) Bali runs the English Language Training Assistance (ELTA) Program, designed to support Australia Awards Scholarship applicants at Masters level who meet the scholarship application criteria but have an English language proficiency level below the minimum IELTS 5.0 requirement. This training aims to improve English language skills in four skill areas (listening, reading, writing & speaking). This training also aims to develop academic skills; effective self-study techniques; and increase confidence in communicating in English, both in academic settings and in wider social contexts. In addition, the training also includes strategies for taking the test to achieve an IELTS score to meet the requirements for the 2024 Australia Awards Scholarship application period. This training is facilitated by teachers or tutors who have been selected and are certified to teach IELTS from IALF.
The collaboration between AUsAid, IALF Bali and the English Masters Study Program has been implemented, marked by the involvement of two English Masters lecturers routinely every year in the IELTS material development workshop which is directly taught directly to training participants a month after the workshop is held, where the lecturers are also directly involved in teaching IELTS strategies for 3 months every year.
This series of activities is in the form of a workshop conducted online via zoom meeting. The results of this activity are in the form of an IELTS learning plan and materials that have been implemented in the 2022 NTB ELTA training. This activity was carried out effectively. Through this activity, instructors who are lecturers from several universities in Indonesia and instructors from IALF Bali who are native speakers from the UK and the British Council can share and exchange best practices in teaching IELTS strategies using interactive and communicative methods.
